Philip Tanzini Biography
A native of Los Angeles, Tanzini began his voice-over career as a child when he was “discovered” by a voice-over agent while waiting in an office reception room.
Not long after, his first big break came when he was signed by animation giant Hanna-Barbera and began voicing cartoons for them, such as “The New Super Friends”. He was the lead voice opposite Burgess Mere-dith in the Emmy nominated 1977 animated TV show, “Puff The Magic Dragon”.
In 1978, Tanzini was offered a role in front of the camera, playing series regular “Jeremy Logan” (1978-1982) on the ABC soap opera, “General Hospital”. Little did anyone suspect that within a year, “General Hospital” would become a cultural phenomenon, averaging 22 million viewers a day. In fact, the November 1981 wedding of Luke & Laura drew over 30 million viewers and that episode remains the highest-rated hour in American soap opera history.
After “General Hospital”, Tanzini continued acting on-camera throughout the 1970s and 80s, guest-starring as
a child on TV shows such as, “Love Boat”, “WKRP in Cincinnati”, “Archie Bunker’s Place” “Eight Is Enough” and many more. His critically acclaimed performance as Harley Poolish on “21 Jump Street” was the highest rated episode ever on any show on Fox at that time.
In the early 1990s, after a long run performing in front of the camera, Tanzini decided to go back to pursuing voice-over exclusively. Since then, Tanzini has voiced thousands of television and radio commercials. He also has been a national network voice for ABC, FOX, ESPN, HBO, The Discovery Channel and G4 as well as a regional voice for many affiliate stations across the country.
Video game fans would recognize Tanzini’s voice from such popular titles as “Star Wars: Jedi Academy”, “Metal Gear Solid”, “Command and Conquer”, “Dead Rising”, “Tomb Raider” and others.
Currently, Philip Tanzini narrates the “E! True Hollywood Story” series for E! Networks, “Lived To Tell” on the Discovery Channel, “The Real Hustle” on Tru-TV (formerly Court TV), and “Unseen And Untold” on Spike TV.
His latest video game title, “Lost Planet 2” will be out later this year on Playstation 3 and Xbox.
He also has national network spots running for Universal Studios, CTIA and U.S. Cellular.
